Team Report

Falko Gotz has had a rollercoaster few days as the whole of the German media expected him to be sacked last Sunday. A 4-2 defeat to Cologne prompted a meeting with the board on Monday, but Gotz emerged triumphant with the board promising their "whole and unreserved support." Manager Dieter Hoeness said: "We gave Falko Gotz a new contract only last November and are fully behind him in reconstructing this team." Rather than draw the consequences of a calendar year which is yet to see Berlin win, Gotz seems to be firmer than ever in control of the side. That backing also extends beyond an expected defeat to Bremen on Saturday as Hertha begin a rebuilding phase with Gotz at the helm, come what may. "I am delighted with the faith the club have vested in me and would like to repay them," said Gotz as he prepared to lead training once again on Wednesday. He faces a busy summer too with the club's crown jewels Marcelinho and Gilberto both likely to be put up for sale while Marko Pantelic, Thorben Marx and Vaclav Sverkos should all leave when their contracts expire. Berlin hope for one final effort from all concerned
